Celebrities can be in the news for all kinds of things, good or bad. Celebrities are just like regular people, in that, they are obligated to obey and respect the law. In theory, this means that a celebrity could break the law just as easily as any regular Sacramento resident. The rapper Mac Miller was arrested and is facing DUI charges, among others.
The rapper was reportedly arrested in connection with a crash in southern California that happened last week. He crashed his car into a pole, and then proceeded to flee on foot with two passengers in the vehicle. When the police caught up with Miller at his home, he immediately confessed and cooperated during processing. He was arrested, and his bail was set at $15,000.
Fleeing the scene of an accident is a crime, even if a person isn't accused of DUI/DWI. The penalties that can result from a DUI conviction can be serious and varied, especially if the suspect is facing other charges, like fleeing the scene of an accident. When in doubt, it's advised to cooperate with police, but that does not mean that you are obligated to give a statement without first consulting legal council.
Cooperating with police is different than giving a statement without consulting an attorney. Understanding the differences in these behaviors is key to building a quality criminal defense against DUI accusations. If you are facing DUI charges, it would be wise to contact an attorney to assist you in your defense.
